Improving my self-image

A self-image group program for adolescents between 15 and 17 years old

Do you have that too, that you don’t like things about yourself? That you think you’re stupid or ugly? Or too shy or not good at sports?

Everyone thinks negatively about themselves sometimes. For example, if you’ve done something clumsy or if you’re having a bad day and find that nothing works for you. An hour later you have completely forgotten about all that and there is nothing to worry about.

But if you keep thinking that you’re stupid or ugly, then you have a negative self-image. This means that you are dissatisfied about yourself on a daily basis. As a result, you do not feel comfortable in your own skin and you have too little self-confidence.

When this is the case, it’s time to do something about this. This self-image program ‘improving my self-image’ helps you to gain more self-confidence and feel positive about who you are and what you do.

This self-image program is based on COMET (Competitive Memory Training) and has proven to be effective in adults, adolescents and children.

In this program you learn to think more positively about yourself by paying more attention to positive qualities of yourself. In addition, you learn to evoke a positive memory that makes you feel proud or strong. Use is made of a positive posture, self-talk, restructuring, group discussions and music. Then, if there are times when you feel insecure, you can activate that positive memory, which will make you feel more confident.

About the program “Improving my self-image”

This group program is suitable for young people between the ages of 15 and 17 who:
– Have a low self-image
– Have low self-esteem
who want to partake in this group program and are able to name one positive quality about themselves.

The program consists of eight sessions, in which a technique is trained that ensures that you think more positively about yourself. The others in the group often have the same problems and you can help each other to think more positively. Everything discussed in the group is confidential.

There is active practice in the group to think more positively, but you also have to practice outside the group to ensure that it helps.

A lot of teens worry about joining a group program. They feel they are the only ones who are struggling, are worried others in the group might judge them, or just the idea of sharing personal things in a group can cause anxiety. It is perfectly normal they feel this way!

If you, or your son/daughter feels this way about joining this group program, please don’t hesitate to get in touch!

I can also assure you, that what ALL the participants in the past have said, was that the fact that they did follow this program in a group setting has been what they have found most beneficial. They noticed others where struggling too and the peer support in the group was what helped made them grow and feel so much stronger.
